I swear, over the last few months I bet I have seen at least twenty different cars being pushed by their occupants, apparently out of gas. What is going on? Yes, I know what has happened to the price of gas lately. But what does that have to do with keeping gas in your tank? Why do people suddenly need to push it to the limit, driving on fumes, only to risk running out of gas? And I'm not talking about people stranded on the side of the highway. I'm talking about people running out of gas IN THE CITY. To me this is pretty stupid. Even if the price of gas is high, you've still got to go to the gas station sooner or later. Why let the tank go near or completely empty?
And by the way, of every single car I've seen being pushed, the occupants were either Black or Hispanic. I don't know what that has to do with it, but it's true. Coincidence? Perhaps. But that is something I have observed. Of course, some of them were women, and naturally they conned some guys into pushing them out of the intersection. I'll be damned if I would get out of my car to help push some dumb broad out of the intersection. Unless she was really hot.
With the price of gas going up almost daily, it seems like the best plan would be to keep it filled close to the top. If there is a sudden drop in price, in my opinion highly unlikely, you are staying ahead of the curve by driving on yesterday's gas price rather than today's.
The other side of the coin is that with the rampant inflation of almost all necessary items, many people are making the choice to put gas in their car or buy food. They might not have the luxury of keeping their tank full when they have children to feed.
There are situations where driving to work costs so much that taking a lower paying job, closer to home is a financial necessity.
As inflation continues, more and more of these absurd situations will start to be realized.

A pack of cigarettes cost less than a gallon of gas. Its comforting to know that I'll run out of gas before I die from lung cancer.

Oooops, my mistake. That second sentence should have said: "Unless there is a sudden drop in price, in my opinion highly unlikely, you will be staying ahead of the curve by driving on yesterday's gas price rather than today's.

But they still find money to buy lottery tickets and scratchers.
Speaking of which, gosh it annoys me when I am in line at a store and am buying like a coke or something and the person in front of me is taking forever telling the clerk which scratchers they want. "Give me one of these, and one of those, and this one, and the one with the three sevens on it....." And I'm thinking like, "Get the fuck out of here, you moron." Of course usually it's a woman. A fat woman.

Cuz money's tight? People are not always rational, and maybe they only had so much money to put in their car. Maybe they miscalculated, because they failed psychologically to keep up with the rising price and plan accordingly. That seems pretty likely, presuming there actually has been an increase in people running out of gas on the roads. (and you probably ARE on to something real there)

Cuz you can't afford to fill it up right now?

They're poorer than whites, on average.

I've seen two separate cars being pushed only about a mile apart. It's amazing. Unless this is a super duper coincidence I would say that I have never seen so many people pushing their cars.
The other day I'm going up this street to the shopping center and it's up at the top of a hill. Maybe 5% grade. And there's like six young Hispanic guys, shaved heads, the works, all pushing their Chevy up this hill. UP THIS HILL! What the fuck, you morons, park the damn thing, walk up to the gas station, buy a gas can, and walk back. Fucking idiots. Gosh I wish I had had my digital camera with me. I would have put pictures up on Flicker along with my Roadhouse Casino pictures. It was funny as fuck.
Which reminds me. I've got to start taking the camera with me everywhere. There's a lot of things in my day-to-day life I need to share with RGP. Remember how when we were kids we would ride our bikes with a buddy on the handle bars or standing on the back with his feet on the axel? Well about a month ago, down near the tracks where the Mexicans stand in the morning trying to get picked up for day labor, I saw the damndest thing. There were four, yes, FOUR Mexicans piled onto this one bicycle, I kid you not. Funniest thing I've ever seen. I've got to start taking that camera with me. Besides, I need to take pictures on my next trip to Home Depot.
